At 6:30am on Saturday 29 August, before I had even properly woken up, our second London Airbnb had been cancelled. We were meant to be heading down for AEW All In and suddenly had nowhere to stay, so the weekend began at DEFCON 1.

Somehow, with sleepy eyes and very little patience left, I found another apartment in the same area. Thank you, Leonid. You genuinely saved our trip.

I have watched AEW since 2019 and went to All In back in 2024, so returning to Wembley in 2026 already felt special.

Our first stop was the AEW All In: Welcome to Wembley! Fan Experience. Fires near Wembley delayed our journey badly enough that we missed the chance to meet Kenny Omega and Jon Moxley, but we made it in time for plenty of everything else.

The room was buzzing. Loud music, bright lights and queues everywhere for meet and greets, the Upper Deck trading card photo op and a chance to hold the AEW World Championship belt. We wandered through the merch and memorabilia and managed a quick meet and greet with Zachary Wentz. I told him, “It was nice meeting a future trios champion,” because The Rascalz deserve it.

Holding the AEW World Championship was one of those ridiculous little bucket-list moments. It is much heavier than I expected, and getting to sling it over my shoulder is going to stick with me for a long time.

Then there was Mick Foley. I watched so many of his matches as a teenager that just getting a photo with him felt special.

After more than five hours without food, wrestling had to take a back seat to survival. We jumped in an Uber and went straight to Pizza Pilgrims by Euston Station. I have no photo because we were absolutely ravenous and just ate. Sometimes that is the review. It was excellent.

Our emergency Airbnb turned out to be a bit of a win too. We were right by Seven Dials, the apartment was spacious and getting in was easy. The beds were a little small and there was noise until around 1am, but considering we had woken up with nowhere to stay, I really could not complain.

The next morning was All In day. Seven Dials Market was around the corner, so we started there with Bleecker Burger and accidentally ordered one burger too many. Obviously, the sensible solution was for me to eat it.

I ended up with a regular burger and a Blue Burger. Both came medium, juicy and properly beefy. The blue cheese was mild rather than aggressively sharp, so it worked with the beef instead of taking over the whole thing.

Then it was Wembley.

All In was incredible. I loved the 2024 show, and that had Swerve vs Bryan, but this somehow felt even bigger. The crowd stayed alive all night, from Austin Creed and Kofi debuting as The New Level and winning the AEW World Trios Championship with Swerve Strickland, to Mercedes Moné finally winning the AEW Women’s World Championship.

But for me, everything came down to Will Ospreay vs Kenny Omega.

They are my two favourite wrestlers, and this was their third singles match. Ospreay also had the chance to become the first UK-born wrestler to win a world title on UK soil. It already felt like history before either of them reached the ring.

Ospreay’s entrance was basically a walk through the people who made his career. Zack Sabre Jr., Michael Oku, Ricochet, Swerve Strickland, Mark Davis and Kyle Fletcher were all there before he reached his wife, Alex Windsor, and finally Jon Moxley, who handed him a Union Jack and sent him towards Wembley with a smile.

I teared up watching it live. I still do when I watch it back.

Then Kenny Omega somehow matched it. His entrance was narrated by All Might from My Hero Academia with “You Say Run” underneath it. As someone who loves anime, this was already top tier. As storytelling, it was ridiculous. Before the bell had even rung I was sitting there thinking, this is five stars already.

And then they wrestled.

There were huge spots, blood, Omega looking completely unhinged and a crowd hanging on everything. Ospreay kicked out of the One-Winged Angel. Then he hit Omega with his own One-Winged Angel and Kenny kicked out at one, before doing it again after the Stormbreaker.

By that point my jaw was on the floor.

Then Ospreay pulled the trigger on one final Hidden Blade, beat Kenny Omega and won the AEW World Championship.

That is the bit I will remember forever. Years from now, I will still be able to say I was there when Will Ospreay beat Kenny Omega at Wembley and became world champion.

Six hours of wrestling later, the night ended with McDonald’s at 1am because sometimes that is exactly what you need.

The next morning was quieter. We grabbed coffee from Neal Street Espresso and finished the weekend with sushi from Sukoshi at Seven Dials Market. I was exhausted and wanted something fresh and easy, and it ended up being the best sushi I have had in the UK. The prawn tasted genuinely fresh, the avocado was creamy, and the fish roe around the outside of the roll gave the whole thing that little extra pop.

So, in the space of one weekend, we went from waking up at 6:30am with nowhere to stay to holding the AEW World Championship, eating very well, spending six hours inside Wembley and watching one of my favourite matches ever.

A little chaotic, completely exhausting and pretty much a perfect weekend for me.
